Jdo: Young wins bout then loses next two
ATHENS, Aug 15 AAP - Australia won its first judo match of the 2004 Olympic Games but
a medal proved a bridge too far for Heath Young.
The 66kg Sydney judoka, who took a painkiller to compete after injuring a pectoral
muscle, defeated Juan Jose Paz from Bolivia in the first round.
His second match was less successful with Cuba's Yordanis Arencibia ending the contest
with an ippon after 43 seconds.
With Arencibia going on to the medal round and winning a silver, Young went through
the repechage.
But the Australian was cleaned up with an ippon by Ludwing Ortiz of Venezuela after
one minute and 10 seconds.
