Qld: Survey finds children don't wear seatbelts
A survey in Queensland has found almost a third of children taken to hospital after
car accidents weren't wearing seatbelts when they were injured.
The survey by the Queensland Trauma Registry looked at children under 14 who were in
hospital for more than 24 hours in the 12 months to June the 30th last year.
It didn't include children who died on impact or before reaching hospital.
Trauma registry manager LEANNE AITKEN says 31 per cent of the injured children hadn't
been secured by seatbelts or in baby capsules.
Dr AITKEN says she believes the figure would be similar in other states.
The World Health Organisation has designated tomorrow as World Trauma Day, to highlight
the need to reduce road deaths.
