Tas: Hundreds of dead fish discovered in Derwent River

HOBART, Feb 1 AAP - Hobart police were called in this morning after hundreds of dead
fish were found floating in the Derwent River in Hobart's north.

Department of Environment officers are investigating the discovery, while Hobart police
Sergeant Pat Lee said the fish were found in the Derwent in the outer northern suburb
of Bridgewater about 8.30am (AEDT) today.

Sgt Lee said he had no information on the species of fish nor the cause of their deaths.

But he said their demise may have something to do with flooding rains in the state
over recent days.

"When our police got there, our officer noticed there were hundreds of fish there," he said.

"They were floating dead on the water."
